Four Peaks is a monthly current affairs show that taps into the Pacific Northwest's rich endowment of idea generators, influential activists, business visionaries and inspired storytellers. Emmy Award-winning TV journalist and host Hanson Hosein interviews these creative leaders who have made it to the top of their respective "Peaks" of Innovation, Community, Entrepreneurship and Entertainment. Each program seeks to "extend the reach" of two or more of these notable guests as they discuss a subject of mutual interest, and of mutual concern. In partnership with the University of Washington's Master of Communication in Digital Media and recorded before a live audience, Four Peaks is a provocative show that collides the views of our best and brightest. Together, they will reframe our region's place in the world.

From Audience to Community: How Content Inspires Participation

Gaming. Music. Movies. The Pacific Northwest has become a hotbed for compelling entertainment. But this content is so much more than just play: some of our region's creative leaders have identified its ability to transform the way that we learn, lead and conduct business as it transforms passive audience members into active community participants. Gaming pioneer Jordan Weisman and award-winning Latina and Latino American curator, Michelle Habell-Pallan, will explain how they've engendered this transformation. We'll also explore how this participatory mindset can give the Pacific Northwest a competitive advantage over other parts of the world, such as Hollywood, New York or Mumbai.

Crossing the Road

Fifty years ago, we had the Cold War and the Space Age to motivate our innovation. Today, we're watching our economy stagnate, even as our region ranks at the bottom of the country in science, technology, engineering and mathematics education. And that's despite the rest of the world's perception of the Pacific Northwest as a hotbed for technology. How can we instill a 21st century "New Frontier" for the next generation? Is it a matter of inspiration or education? What place should we reserve for the arts and creativity generally? Join us for a special Four Peaks episode at the Pacific Science Center as we consider how to reinvigorate a region that gave the world Bill Boeing and Bill Gates.

Beyond Seattle 'Nice': How is Seattle's 'polite' mentality impacting the Pacifc Northwest's success or failure?

Respectful. Collaborative. A distinct lack of honking car horns. Seattle "Nice" permeates the way its residents live and do business every day. It's a pleasant refuge from an increasingly rough-and-tumble world. But given this globally competitive landscape, should we be doing more to climb our way to the top? Or is our pleasantness sufficient to distinguish us from the madding crowd? And what does this mean for the Pacific Northwest's place in the world? We'll explore these questions with Adam Brotman from Starbucks, and Leigh Canlis of Canlis Glass through their business, philanthropy, technology and arts perspectives. We'll also engage on-camera with creative thought leaders in this provocative Four Peaks premiere episode.
