Developing Machine Translation Prototypes for Languages with Limited Resources
A research group at Carnegie Mellon University has been developing a general learning-based framework for constructing MT prototypes for languages that have limited resources. In this Turing Center Distinguished Lecture Series, Alon Lavie describes this framework along with newly developed approaches for several related learning tasks. Lavie summarizes their experience from applying these approaches to the development of MT prototype systems for several different language pairs (Hebrew-to-English, Hindi-to-English) and describes preliminary work that they have conducted on native languages of Latin America.
