Samuel and Althea Stroum Lectures in Jewish Studies - 2003
Jewish Renewal in the American Spiritual Marketplace with Chava Weissler - The Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies presents the 2003 Samuel and Althea Stroum lecture series. American Judaism has developed new varieties of spiritual expression, including feminist ritual and liturgy, Jewish mysticism (kabbalah), retreat centers teaching Jewish meditation, and dialogues among Jews, Buddhists, and Jewish Buddhists. All of these have influenced the Jewish Renewal Movement, whose founders endeavored to create an American reformulation of Jewish spirituality, drawing from sources such as Kabbalah, Hasidism, Jewish feminism, and the havurah movement, as well as Eastern influences, the ecological movement, and the self-actualization movement. For more information, see the Jackson School website.
