Are you interested in broadcasting UWTV? Here are some of our most frequently asked questions about equipment and programming.

Q:  What kind of equipment do I need to receive the UWTV satellite downlink?
A:  UWTV transmits a DVB (Digital Video Broadcast) compliant MPEG-2 signal. You need a 1.2 or 1.8 meter dish capable of receiving a Ku-band digital signal from Galaxy 10R , and a DVB compliant integrated receiver/decoder (such as the General Instruments SR 3200 or the equivalent). Note: 4DTV and GI 4200 will not decode this signal.

The following vendors will sell this equipment with or without installation.

Q: What is the maximum and minimum amount of hours I can retransmit on my channel?
A: The maximum is 24x7. The minimum is one block of programming. Blocks usually run about 3-6 hours each.

Q:  What are the blocks of programming available?
A:  Blocks are based on Pacific Time. Choose any 3 to 6-hour block (based on times and content needed), beginning frfom 12 am PST. For more information on programming blocks, please see the UWTV Program Schedule.

Q: Can I record and time-shift programming?
A:  No, UWTV blocks have been developed to offer time flexibility by repeating blocks over the course of 24 hours. Timeshifting could create confusion for viewers who read the on-air UWTV schedule of programs, as the timeshift would not coordinate with these schedules.

Q:  How can I identify our channel — can I break into the UWTV signal for station identification? Can I break in for specials? Commercials?
A:  Station Identification - UWTV programming council requires that the UWTV signal be carried as a whole. It is recommended that station breaks occur before and after UWTV programming blocks.

Specials - Stations can break into a UWTV programming block for local specials provided the break occurs before a UWTV program begins, or after the completion of a program.

Commercials - UWTV is a non-commercial programming service and prohibits the insertion of commercials within programming blocks.

Q:  We use an automated system — how can I be sure we switch to a UWTV block at the correct time?
A:  UWTV uses the GPS clock system and you can synchronize your system with it to ensure switching at the correct time.

Q:  How can I get the UWTV schedule of programs in advance of the publication in your website?
A:  Email UWTV at info@uwtv.org to inquire about receiving the most up-to-date schedule.
