What goes on behind the scenes of a film shoot? Find out this month on UW 360, where we hear from filmmakers who spent time on campus last fall shooting a new feature film. You can soon watch "21 and Over" in a theater near you and spot all the campus locations! Then get to know UW athlete Greg Walker, who dreams of becoming a physician, while handling the rigors of life on the UW football team. Find out how the College of Engineering is helping to increase interest and success in engineering and math. They offer a free summer program for high school students that prepares them for the intense college level courses. Plus, stories on service learning integrated with academics and the history of the Suzzallo Library addition – all this month on "UW 360!"

In this episode of "UW 360," you learn how well the UW is represented in the armed forces with alum and Medal of Honor Recipient, Bruce Crandall. This episode also updates viewers on Foldit, the gaming experiment that may help solve complicated health problems. Hear from Jana Mohr Lone and her quest to integrate philosophy into elementary through high school classrooms. Then, watch a clip from UWTV's exclusive series "Greatest Moments at Husky Stadium," sure to be a hit for all the Husky fans who bleed purple! Get a peek at the past with another clip from the UW's 150th anniversary archives. Tune into the October episode of "UW 360" for the latest research on a partnership to protect and grow the local oyster industry. Then, take a trip into space exploration with a profile of UW alum George Jeffs, a leader in the US space program and integral part of the Apollo 13 mission. Fall is the season for sports, and it's a good time to learn about how to protect young athletes from sports concussions. And students shopping at the University Book Store can now decide how best to budget their textbook spending with a new comparison pricing program. Finally, take another trip back in time to revisit the UW's first 150 years with a focus on recruiting women engineers!

The show that gets everyone talking about the UW begins season two with in-depth interview with new University of Washington President, Michael Young. Then hear from College of Engineering faculty member Eric Chudler on educating Tibetan monks on basic neuroscience. The popular mobile phone app One Bus Away was developed right here at the UW, and we hear from developer, Brian Ferris, on his work with this handy application. These stories, plus a kick off to the UW's yearlong 150th Anniversary from the UW Libraries Special Collections, this month on "UW 360."

At the academic year comes to a close, graduating UW seniors imagine how their Husky experience will shape their lives after graduation, and what they'll miss most (hint: it's not finals week!). Women's volleyball Coach McLaughlin serves up a preview of next season, letting sports fans in on what to expect from the Huskies next fall. Later, meet the innovative entrepreneurs behind MicroGREEN Polymers and learn how the Center for Commercialization is bringing the UW's brain trust into the world of cutting-edge start-ups. Then, get a sneak peek at the Burke Museum's "Wolves and Wildlands in the 21st Century," an intriguing exhibit opening June 4th. And, witness an unconventional flash mob organized by students to raise awareness of disability issues around campus. To close out the final episode of the season, Phyllis Wise reflects on her time as Interim President and discusses what she's looking forward to as she returns to her role as Provost.

From brain science to art, mentoring to law, the January edition of UW 360 guides viewers through the diverse projects undertaken by UW staff and researchers. Hear from wrongfully convicted inmates granted freedom through the efforts of the Innocence Project. Then watch as UW's I-LABS explore brain imaging to better understand human learning and development; and get to know Alvin Ziontz, author and former UW professor who spent 30 years representing Northwest tribes in landmark cases. Finally, learn how UW staff and students are helping high-need high schools improve learning opportunities, and take a tour of the Jacob Lawrence Gallery on the UW campus.
December 2010 Edition

In the December 2010 Edition of UW360, meet the Husky Women's Basketball team and get a preview of what they expect to accomplish on the court this season. Tour the UW campus with a visit to the salmon homing pond, where Chinook and Coho have been raised, released and now return every fall. Next, take a look at a summer camp where students with disabilities experience a mix of hands-on science classes, campus living, career exploration and lots of fun. Then follow undergraduate oceanographers out onto Puget Sound as they learn methods for field research, and hear about a student whose international research project turned into earthquake relief effort in China. And finally, take in performances by the Chamber Dance Company, a group dedicated to staging works that span a century of modern dance.
November 2010 Edition

In the November episode of UW 360, family game night takes on a new twist as people of all ages help science while playing computer games that fold proteins into intricate shapes. Foldit, a game created by UW professors Zoran Popovic, David Baker and others, takes advantage of human abilities combined with computers to solve problems better than either can do alone. The spotlight shines on the little-known Husky ice hockey team, almost fully self-supported, who play for love of the game and the quest for a PAC 8 championship. Next, meet Cuong Vu, a jazz trumpet player turned Distinguished Teaching Award-winning professor from the School of Music. He encourages his students to participate in live performances at places like Café Racer in the U-District. Then, student reporter Kim Spaulding explores the range of opportunities for student involvement in campus activities, including political and social activism. Finally, visit a healing garden at Fisher House, a residence for families of veterans who are being treated at nearby Seattle Veterans Affairs Hospital. The garden was designed by UW Professor Daniel Winterbottom's landscape architecture students, including a Vietnam veteran who's now a doctoral student.

October 2010 Edition

The premiere episode of UW 360 offers an exciting mix of stories from the University of Washington, letting you take a closer look inside the campus and beyond. The stories begin with a study on the potentially disastrous results of building homes and businesses along flood-prone rivers, and what we can do to avoid catastrophe. Visit the renowned Lamborghini Lab, where researchers create lightning strikes and high-impact crashes in the quest to make safer vehicles. Meet a UW alum who helped bring local farmers' markets to Seattle neighborhoods; and visit the new Center for Pediatric Dentistry, which provides dental care for young children in our area and helps encourage that care around the world. The Ocean Observatories Initiative provides the opportunity to view amazing undersea footage launched from the UW research vessel Thompson during the Enlighten '10 cruise in the Pacific. Then, meet Daylee Baker, a second-generation Husky, as she starts her freshman year on campus, and pay a farewell tribute to departing UW President Mark Emmert.


The half-hour program is hosted by television veteran Carolyn Douglas, a former Northwest television news anchor and reporter. With an abundance of UW stories to tell, each episode gives you a chance to discover a new facet of the University.
